Fight against IUU Fishing. The RFA was asked by the European Parliament to comment the European Commission's proposal on a "New Strategy for the Community to Prevent, Deter and E liminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated  (IUU) Fishing" at the European Parliament, February 27, 2008. The presentation from that event is below.

EU Deputy Marie-Hélène Aubert in charge of IUU Fishing at the Fisheries Committee, EU Parliament commented on the presentation below (translated from French):

The RFA prestentation at the EU Parliament, Feb. 27, -  forbiding market access for illegal fish.

"The retail sector, or more exactly, the responsible retail sector, as defined in the Charter of the Responsible Fishing Alliance, presented a relevant analyse of the problems faced by the fish chain [regarding Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing]: need for supra-national control to avoid any tolerance at national level; application of dissuasive sanctions;  question of the high demand for IUU fish products; problem of the access [of IUU fish products] to the EU market… And some solutions to reinforce the role of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations, like ICCAT for example".
